In the year 1977, the enthusiastic underwater filmmaker, Franz Ostermeier, founded marinSolar in Munich, Germany. The first German underwater camera specialist shop for:
“Underwater housings for: underwater photo, video and lighting”
From divers, for divers! A motto that we have dedicated ourselves to since the foundation of the company.
Since its foundation, marinSolar has made a name for itself in the underwater light sector. Everything started with the now legendary, very compact underwater double flash units as cable and slave flash with Quicksnap double rail for calypso/NIKONOS – amphibian cameras. Many of these units are still in use today and their users swear that there is no better flash system. 1979 a close cooperation with the company Eumig, Vienna was started. For the EUMIG Nautica, the only self-sealed film camera in the world to date, marinSolar provided the official lighting system. The sytem supplied for the Eumig comtained the light plus camera stabilization wings.
The concept of videolights in combination with the stabilization wings was the great inovation and advantage of the marinSolar systems. Cameras and hard housings come from the respective specialists. Our designers at marinSolar take care that they can also be used optimally in the extremely demanding element, underwater, by the cameraman: Videolights with an optimally tuned colour temperature and luminous intensity to facilitate calm and fluid camerawork.
At the end of 2004, marinSolar was taken over by Ewa-Marine. Unfortunately, in subsequent years it was necessary to discontinue developmentand production of the lamp series as it was no longer economical. The former marinSolar production line is now the workshop department of ewa-marine, the sales and customer service of underwater housings however, continues as before.
