Product Description

Ikelite 71700 underwater Housing for Canon EOS 5D Mark II DSLR

The Ikelite 71700 Underwater Housing is a fully equipped and durable waterproof housing for Canon EOS 5D Mark II DSLR cameras. Suitable for scuba diving, snorkeling, surfing, swimming pool and any application in or around the water.

The most important feature is the dry lock (DL) port system. This exciting new system is even more robust and even easier to mount than the proven four lock (FL) system. The new ports are lighter and more adaptable and can easily accommodate lenses with an extremely large diameter. The most popular zoom lenses and selected lens focus rings can be activated with a simple but effective gearing system that allows setting directly at your fingertips. Refer to the DL System Port chart to select the correct port. Zoom extensions are available separately. Due to differences in the assembly diameter and the zoom operation, DL and FL-type ports cannot be used interchangeably. The DL port mount can be removed and replaced with old Port locks for FL Port system (4-pack) # 5509.04 for older users with standard or modular ports from the four-lock system. This change prevents the use of newer DL ports. The enclosure cannot be repeatedly converted back and forth.

This housing requires the addition of a compatible DL Lens Port for waterproof operation. Lens Port not included.

The supplied vacuum valve allows you to check the housing for leaks before you go into the water with your expensive equipment.

This housing supports your choice of whether you want to manually shoot or add a TTL converter, depending on your application. The flash-Schott has been pushed to the top of the case for better cable guidance and lower load. Reliable locking connections between the hot shoe and the splash wall make it easy to mount the optional TTL hot shoe or to transport parts when you are traveling.

You can still enjoy the fastest and most accurate TTL exposure on the market by adding the NT2 nikon TTL hot shoe # 46061, Nikon TTL converter with Ikelite Connector # 4301.3 and a compatible Ikelite DS flash. The exposure compensation can be added or subtracted in the camera.

The camera is mounted from the front to allow easy installation and removal. A small mounting plate is attached to the underside of the camera and attached to the front of the case. The camera mounting plate does not need to be removed from the camera for use on the surface or for changing the battery or memory cards. The mounting plate has a 1/4-20 threaded mounting on the underside so that it can be attached to a tripod on the surface.

The included Supereye Finder provides an improved view of the camera’s optical viewfinder when viewed through a diving mask.

The new white ABS PC Blendfront is stronger than its transparent counterpart, offers improved contrast and visibility and keeps your camera cooler in the sun.

PORT-OPTIONS
With some lenses, we can offer more like a port option.
In the first column is always the recommended option for the best compromise between image quality, performance and handling with the listed lens. However, if you want to use more than one lens in the housing (e.g. fish-eye, wide-angle and macro), then one of the other options may be a way to save money.

Large 8-inch and smaller 6-inch dome port as well as flat ports
For wide-angle shots under about 24mm focal length, a dome port is always recommended. This avoids blurring and darkening of the corners caused by the refractive index of the water.
For half-and half-shots (i.e. half above and half underwater), a port with a larger diameter is always recommended. This reduces the blurred meniscus (the stroke resulting from the fact that the water on the glass "creeps up") in the image.
In the field of underwater macro photography, with focal lengths above 40mm, the flat-ports are a sensible, more compact and cheaper alternative to the domes.

Diopter
Some options require a +4 Dioptrienfilter/MRC. This can be purchased from your local photo retailer and is usually sold in a set of +1 and +2 macro. Popular brands include Hama, Tiffen and Hoya. Be sure to buy the right size for your lens. The thread diameter is usually indicated on the front of the lens and also in the lens cap in millimeters (Ø 58 mm, 67 mm, etc.). If you try to use these options without using +4 Dioterfilter, the photos taken are blurred!

You always need all the products listed
If multiple products are listed for a particular option, you must purchase all the listed products and use the lens as well.

In this case, the following viewfinders provide the optimal insight:

- Ikelite 6891.2 angle viewfinder loupe type 2

- Ikelite 6890 horizontal viewfinder magnifying glass
